The Little Black Dress
There are few things that are always in style. Whether its season to season, year to year, or even decade to decade, fashion is always changing. The hottest trends that were all the rage last year, may be major fashion faux pas this year. You have to keep up with your own wardrobe, and very few things transition between seasons. You may be able to hold on to houdstooth for a decade, and eventually it will come back (as it recently did) but some us need more practical options. Very few people have the money to update their wardrobe every three months in hopes they will keep a style savvy look all year long. So what is the one thing that remains in style, no matter the season, or the era? The little black dress, of course!
When it comes to what’s hot and what’s in with women’s clothes, you have to keep up with your Vogue subscription to find out. But when it comes to practical wardrobe options for every occasion, there are very few choices out there. However, the age old fall back still remains the same, the little black dress. This is an essential piece of your wardrobe, you will find more uses for it than that sexy red number you couldn’t leave the store without, but can’t seem to find the right occasion to wear it to. The little black dress is versatile, it’s comfortable, it’s flattering, and it goes with everything. It can be strapless, it can be modest, it can be snug, it can be just about anything.
The idea of the little black dress is to have an item you can use no matter the occasion. You can dress it up for a wedding with a shimmery shawl and a pair of bold colored pumps. It can be semi formal for a work party, being appropriate in it’s neutrality. It can be dressed down for a party with friends, or glammed up with a sequin shrug or bold patterned jacket. It should be simple enough to not have any embellishments or loud details, but flattering enough to be the right cut and fit for your body type. It shouldn’t be cut too low or high (this will eliminate the work appropriate attire). It should sit in a casual neutral in between every occasion, so if you are invited last minute, or aren’t sure of the “tone” of the attire, you can rely on it.
