How to Make First Contact on an Online Dating Site

You register on the online dating site, Parship. You’ve been honest in setting up your profile, and you scan those of others. You find a few that interest you. Now what?

Online dating, as real world dating, allows women easy freedom to make first contact. When you send that important first message, don’t gush. You can be excited, but don’t overdo the enthusiasm. That tends to put most men off.

Don’t rush to give more personal information than what’s on your profile. It’s not only unsafe, it could be interpreted as insecurity, that ‘I’m going to bare my soul so you’ll listen to me’ bit. Just be honest and be yourself. Let the person know that you would be interested in talking some more.

Let the person know what drew your attention: Was it a common hobby, occupation or interests? Was it just that you liked the way he looks in his photograph? Be prepared if it’s the latter, ladies. You don’t know if the picture you see is current or even his.

Keep that initial message short, forthright and polite. Be prepared to not have it returned for any number of reasons. Don’t worry if it’s your tenth message. Some will respond; some won’t.
